Rotation Modes Explained
The Placement Tool includes several rotation modes to suit different placement scenarios. Below are the available modes, along with descriptions and key settings.
FaceCam Rotation
Purpose: Automatically orients the asset so it faces the active camera.
Ideal For: Situations where you always want the asset to be oriented towards the viewer.
Cliff edges while placing them oriented toward the editor's view camera.
Statues in rooms facing the same direction.
Key Settings:
No manual adjustments are required; the tool aligns based on the current camera view.
Optional Settings:
Surface Alignment: Option to align rotation with the surface normal.
Manual Rotation
Purpose: Allows you to set a fixed rotation for the asset.
Ideal For: When you need complete control over the asset’s orientation.
Key Settings:
A manual rotation property lets you define the precise yaw, pitch, and roll.
Optional Settings:
Surface Alignment: Option to align rotation with the surface normal.
Random Rotation
Purpose: Applies a random rotation within specified ranges.
Ideal For: Adding variety in scenes by randomizing asset orientation.
Key Settings:
Random Yaw Range: Set minimum and maximum values for yaw.
Random Pitch & Roll Ranges: (If applicable) Define limits for pitch and roll.
Optional Settings:
Surface Alignment: Option to align rotation with the surface normal.
Drag Rotation
Purpose: Adjusts the asset’s rotation based on the drag direction.
Ideal For: Achieving intuitive, on-the-fly adjustments by dragging in the viewport.
